We are in desperate need of foster homes for Cattaraugus County children. We are
looking for stable, nurturing families willing to care for children ages birth
to 21, who must be housed temporarily outside of their own birth family home. It
is also our hope to find foster families who would be willing to commit to the
long term care of children who cannot return to live with their birth families,
as we would like children to experience as few disruptions as possible in foster
care, recognizing the trauma this experience creates for children.
We continue to need families willing to adopt older children and/or children
with special needs. Every child brought into this world should be connected to a
family. Whether, in cases of special needs children, they have to reside
periodically in hospitals or treatment facilities, they still need families to
care about them and, whenever possible, directly for them. In cases of older
children, families must have the desire to give a child a safe and caring
environment in which to live and grow, recognizing in many cases that the child
has many past attachments that are important to him or her, and should be
respected by an adoptive family. In all cases, families must be willing to
commit to these children as they would birth children, unconditionally
So, whether you choose to foster or to adopt or both, whether you are able to do
this only once in your life or multiple times, there is no greater self
less deed that one could do and no greater need that you could fill. It may not be easy,
but nothing worthwhile ever is.
If you (or someone you know) are willing to share your (or their) home and
family with a child in need of a temporary or permanent home and family, please
contact Mary Jo Wilder or Theresa Grove at (716) 373-8070 , or stop
into our office at 1701 Lincoln Avenue, Olean, for more information about our
programs and our kids. |
